The pattern on this haori was created using the batik style from Indonesia, which is where wax is used to block off certain parts from being dyed, and then it is dyed once more to fill those spots. (This is what created the yellow borders, and the fabric itself has a pattern built in to show the artist where to put the wax.)

Inside the yellow squares, you'll see small floral designs that were hand painted as well.
